How much do you charge?
I charge $250 per session. I will meet with you for a solid hour rather than the standard 45-50 minute session.
Do you offer a sliding scale?
I do not, for a variety of philosophical and practical reasons. Primarily, constraining my practice to a single fee prevents me from asking you to subsidize other clients.
Do you work with insurance companies?
I do not work directly with insurance companies. I will, however, provide an invoice if you wish to seek out-of-network reimbursement from your carrier. Please check with your insurance provider about their reimbursement policies.
There are two reasons I don’t work with insurance companies. First, there is evidence that the involvement of an insurance company can damage therapeutic outcomes. I want to make sure that I am working for you, not for a third party with a different set of motivations.
Secondly, I take your privacy very seriously. Insurance companies require providers to divulge information that may later affect you. My billing approach offers a higher level of privacy even if you choose to seek out-of-network reimbursement.
What about confidentiality?
Excepting situations in which I am bound to break confidentiality (for example, child abuse or the intent to harm someone) everything we discuss will stay between you and me.
How long does treatment take?
If we decide to work together, the duration and frequency is entirely up to you. (You’re the boss, after all.) Some problems can be managed in just a few sessions. Some people choose to use therapy on an ongoing basis for a variety of reasons, such as managing complex difficulties or using therapy to continually pursue their highest potential.
What does “Psy.D.” mean?
It is a doctorate of clinical psychology – a professional degree akin to an M.D. or J.D. I am a licensed psychologist in the State of Colorado.
Are you married?
People considering couple therapy will want to know that I am happily married to my wife of 23 years, and we have a daughter. You can read more about me on my bio page.
What does your office look like?
My office is spacious and very private:
